Made for the way you play
The little things matter. bearoff is designed to make playing backgammon easy.
Auto-play
Some moves do not require a decision. bearoff takes care of them for you.
A roll with no legal move passes on its own. A turn with only one possible play, or a die that can only go one way, such as entering from the bar, is played for you, and the rest of the turn is left to you. Whenever bearoff plays part of a turn, a banner tells you what it did.
One of these is yours to switch off, in Preferences: bearing off a checker automatically when a die matches it exactly and nothing of your opponent's is left to hit.
Hints
Not sure what to play? When there is more than one legal move, the hint lamp lights up.
Get the move the Hard computer would play, together with a simple explanation of why. Accept a hint to stage the move without committing it. You can still undo or change it.
Virtual game board
Want to play in person but do not have a board? We have got you.
Turn your device into a board: choose Virtual game board in the lobby, lay the tablet or phone on the table between you and sit opposite each other. Nobody passes it back and forth; it stays where you put it, like a real board.
The board stays put, while controls, dice and stack counts turn towards the player whose turn it is. Scores and results are readable from both sides.
No internet connection is needed. Everything is handled directly on the device, and nothing about the match is recorded.
Share and watch
Share a game with a single link. Anyone with the link can watch without an account.
They can replay from the beginning, skip to the latest position, or watch the game live as you play.
Viewers see the board, dice, players and history, but not private features like chat, hints or your head-to-head score.
Finished games can be shared too.
History and replay
Tap any turn to replay the game from that point on the real board, then jump back to the current position whenever you like.
You can also see each player's doubles and the blots they have hit. Detailed move history is kept for the three most recent finished games between each pair of players, while results and scores remain available.
Chat
Connect while playing. Your conversation stays between the two of you and follows you from game to game.
Send messages, use quick reactions or create up to ten of your own. Choose from six emoji skin tones, too.
Notifications
Stay in the loop or keep things quiet.
Turn notifications on or off individually: your turn, a double offered, nudges, game invites, invites from new opponents, chat, a weekly reminder and product news, each by push or by email. You decide what gets your attention.
Simple login
There is no password to remember.
Sign in with Apple, Google or your email address. If you use email, we will send you a one-time code to sign in.
Four board designs
Choose your look.
Each theme changes both the board and the surrounding app, and comes in a light and a dark version that follows your device. You can switch whenever you like.
